Over the course of his Hall of Fame career, Martin Brodeur has played a lot of games. Brodeur has played at least 70 games in 12 regular seasons, and he hit or exceeded 75 games in five seasons. This will not be one of those. Slowed by injury earlier this year, and dogged by ineffectiveness and a slew of losses, Brodeur told the media Monday that he will start sharing time in net with veteran backup Johan Hedberg.
The change comes after Brodeur allowed three goals on seven shots in a loss to Carolina Saturday night. Hedberg started the night before, playing very well in a 3-1 win over the Atlanta Thrashers.
Both goalies have five wins this season, with Brodeur's five coming in 27 games, and Hedberg's in only 17.
