Boston's
Patrice Bergeron was well on his way to becoming a fantastic NHL forward until a series of concussions sidetracked his career during the 2007 and 2008 seasons. Finally healthy last season, the 25-year-old started to show the promise and ability
Bruins fans saw during the first three years of his career with a 19-goal, 50-point performance, complete with a roster spot on Canada's Gold Medal winning team at the
Olympics.
He entered the 2010-11 campaign as one of six Boston players that would have been eligible for unrestricted free agency following the season. On Friday morning
the Bruins announced that Bergeron had signed a three-year contract extension that will pay him a reported $15 million, carrying a cap hit of $5 million per season.
In terns of the cap hit, it's identical to the contract Montreal's
Tomas Plekanec signed this summer, though it's a bit shorter in terms of the length of the deal.
