Scunthorpe stun QPR, Reading win a thriller against Nottingham Forest and Brighton close in on promotion

? No prizes for guessing what the biggest shock of the day was. Off we go to Glanford Park, where despite taking the lead through Rob Hulse, QPR crashed to an astonishing 4-1 defeat to Scunthorpe United. Scunthorpe are 22nd, QPR are top, but, for one day only, league positions didn't matter. Joe Garner drew Scunthorpe level after 28 minutes and then put them ahead three minutes into the second half, before Michael O'Connor and Mark Duffy sealed a remarkable victory that leaves them five points off safety. As for QPR, this was comfortably their biggest defeat of the season. With six games to go, they're 10 points ahead of third-placed Cardiff City. They should be fine ? shouldn't they?
? The game of the day was undoubtedly at the City Ground, where Nottingham Forest and Reading played out a seven-goal humdinger. In an incredible game, the lead traded hands several times, although Reading must have thought they'd blown it when Lewis McGugan equalised with an 88th-minute penalty, Forest's second of the afternoon. No matter, Reading kept plugging away and in the 90th minute they forced Luke Chambers into scoring an own goal. Amazingly, there was even time for Shane Long to miss a penalty for Reading, not that it mattered in the end. The win kept Reading in the play-off positions, four points off an automatic spot, but Forest's hopes are fading fast.
? Brighton are nearly there. One more win will do it. One more win and they'll be in the Championship next season. After beating Sheffield Wednesday 2-0 thanks to a penalty from Chris Wood and a late strike from Elliott Bennett, they're now 13 points clear of third-placed Huddersfield Town, who snatched a late draw against Peterborough United at home. What a superb job Gus Poyet has done at Brighton.
? Notts County parted company with Paul Ince last Sunday, not that it's done them any immediate good. Away to their fellow strugglers Dagenham & Redbridge, they lost 3-1 to move into the relegation zone. Gallingly, the Daggers moved two points above them, although they have played a game more. At least Bristol Rovers lost as well, going down 2-0 at home to Exeter. Tranmere Rovers will be feeling good about themselves now, a 2-1 victory away to Bournemouth moving them four points clear of the relegation places. They'll be taking nothing for granted yet, but they shouldn't have to do too much more to secure their survival.
? Could the great escape be on for Barnet in League Two? Having struggled all season, they've stumbled upon a decent run of form and are now level on points with Burton Albion, who lost away to Morecambe. They've played two games more than Burton, but only goal difference is keeping them in the relegation zone after a fine 2-1 victory over Crewe Alexandra. No such luck for Stockport County though; a 2-2 draw at home to Stevenage leaves them five points adrift at the bottom. With a goal difference of -45, the jig is basically up.
