Football League: your thoughts | Paolo Bandini

Southampton prevail over the team that beat them to the League One title and Jordan Rhodes keeps on scoring for Huddersfield

? Brighton may have beaten Southampton to first place in League One last season, but the Saints reaffirmed the shift in power with an impressive 3-0 win at St Mary's that allowed them to maintain their lead over West Ham at the top of the Championship. Not that we we should be too surprised ? Southampton have now won all of their last 18 home league games.

? Having gone seven weeks without a goal for Burnley, Jay Rodriguez seemed to have chosen the perfect moment to break his duck when he headed past Alex McCarthy from close range to give the home side an early lead in the trans-Pennine derby against Leeds. But while Burnley went on to dominate the rest of the game, they failed to press home their advantage and were caught out by two late Robert Snodgrass strikes. Instead of moving up towards midtable Burnley slipped down to the brink of the relegation zone, with the pressure beginning to mount on their manager Eddie Howe.

? Nick Barmby did not name himself in the Hull team to face Derby at Pride Park this afternoon, and nor did he need to ? the Tigers affording him the perfect start to his managerial career with a 2-0 win. The result takes Hull back into the Championship play-off places.

? The Huddersfield manager Lee Clark claimed this week that 2m wouldn't even be enough to buy Jordan Rhodes's socks, as the manager denied reports that the striker had a release clause of that value written into his contract. It's easy to see why Starks is so anxious to keep hold of his man ? the 21-year-old got both Huddersfield's goals as they beat Notts County to tighten their grip on second place in League One, and already has 15 goals in just 16 appearances so far this season.

? A Devon derby against Torquay brought no respite for Plymouth, as they lost a league game to the Gulls for the first time since 1972. Argyle are the only team in the Football League yet to reach 10 points this season, and after just 18 games are already at risk of being cut adrift at the bottom of League Two.
