Devils? Eric Boulton, Blue Jackets? Jared Boll both light $2,500 after NHL fines

The Shanahammer took some practice swings on Wednesday, as New Jersey Devils forward Eric Boulton and Columbus Blue Jackets forward Jared Boll were both fined $2,500 for their actions on Tuesday night.

(Please keep in mind this is the maximum amount allowed under the current CBA, which is why the NHL has to keep giving players lengthy suspensions to take away their money, which is the one thing that really gets their attention.)

Boulton slashed Mike Rupp of the New York Rangers at 2:34 of the second period on an non-penalized play. Rangers Coach John Tortorella said the Rupp was feeling fine after the game.

Boll, meanwhile, had an illegal check to the head of San Jose Sharks star Joe Thornton just 20 seconds into their game on Tuesday night, receiving a minor penalty for it. You'd figure it would be punishment enough that Boll woke up Thornton with that elbow, and helped spark the Sharks' 6-0 win, but apparently not. From the Mercury News:

"It sure was a game you could get emotionally involved in," said Thornton, who responded with a fiery two-goal, one-assist performance to lead a San Jose offense that had been struggling in the weeks leading up to the just-completed NHL All-Star break. "It was a good hit to take and get the two points and move on."

So Boll gets a $2,500 and the San Jose bench squirter lives to squirt another day. "Where's the justice!?" asked no one ?
