There are no signs of life from the groundstaff in terms of beginning the mopping up process, understandably perhaps, and with thunderstorms forecast for after lunch, the odds are that this match is now destined to be drawn.
This would mean Northants taking six points, and Middlesex 10. That will leave Northants, who now have just two games to play, 41 points clear of Surrey in third - and Surrey are playing here next week. Middlesex will be 18 points behind Northants in second. With a game in hand, and Leicestershire to play twice, they still have a very good chance of finishing as champions. They have certainly looked a better side than Northants here.
