Andy Sutton suspended, hearing with Court Shanahan goes Monday

Andy Sutton suspended, hearing with Court Shanahan goes MondayAndy Sutton will have to wait until Monday to learn whether or not he'll face a lengthy suspension for his hit on Gabriel Landeskog from Friday night's game between the Edmonton Oilers and Colorado Avalanche. The Oilers' defenseman has been suspended pending an in-person hearing with disciplinarian Brendan Shanahan in New York.

He goes before Court Shanahan Monday at 10 a.m. EST.

If I'm Andy Sutton, I'm not looking forward to Monday (unless he's a fan of "The Sing Off").As the expertElliotte Friedman points out, it doesn't bode well for Sutton that this incident calls for a face-to-face.

Sutton can't play until after the hearing, meaning he won't be available Sunday when the Oilers face the St. Louis Blues, and the fact that the hearing is in-person indicates that this likely won't be the only game he misses: Shanahan now has the option to issue a suspension that exceeds five games.

Is Shanahan planning to throw the book at Sutton?

The fact that Landeskog stayed in the game works in Sutton's favour, but Shanahan has made no secret of his feelings towards repeat offenders, and Sutton is one, having beensuspended for two games in Jan 2010 after a hit on Pascal Dupuis.

What do Andy Sutton and Rebecca Black have in common? Neither want this weekend to end.
