Football League: your thoughts | John Ashdown

Shefki Kuqi makes a goalscoring debut at Oldham, while MK Dons and Sheffield United march on in League One

? Shefki Kuqi had never played in the third tier before Saturday and it took him just six minutes of his Oldham debut to get on the scoresheet. The 34-year-old Finn turned down approaches from a number of Championship sides to hook up with his former Blackburn team-mate Paul Dickov at Boundary Park, and it's worth remembering that he was a Premier League striker with Newcastle last season. "There was surprise last season when I signed for Newcastle, though not from me," he said, "as I knew I could play in the Premier League which I did." Just not very much. His six appearances for Alan Pardew's side came as a 90th-minute substitute, a 91st-minute substitute, an 85th-minute substitute, an 83rd-minute substitute, a 91st-minute substitute and an 82nd-minute substitute. But he'll be a useful addition in the third tier ? he even managed to send those aging limbs into his trademark bellyflop celebration.

? Kuqi's goal didn't bring Oldham a win, however, with Anthony Kay grabbing Huddersfield a point. It's been a steady, if unspectacular, start for Lee Clark's pre-season favourites. The Terriers have now drawn four of their six league games, but they remain unbeaten. Also yet to taste defeat are MK Dons, who lead the way after a 3-1 win at Carlisle, and Sheffield United who thumped Bury 4-0 at Bramall Lane.

? At the other end of the League One table three sides remain winless ? Rochdale, who slipped to a 4-2 defeat at Stevenage, and Chesterfield and Leyton Orient, who ground out a 0-0 draw in an early basement battle at the B2net Stadium.

? Like Kuqi, enjoying a goalscoring debut was Rotherham's Alex Revell, a deadline day mover from Leyton Orient. He twice put the Millers ahead against Paolo Di Canio's Swindon Town, but the home side twice came from behind and the substitute Alan Connell provided the winner nine minutes from time. It was Swindon's first win since opening day and a first defeat for Rotherham, League Two leaders at the start of the day.

? Replacing Andy Scott's side at the summit are Crawley, who dispatched Bristol Rovers 4-1 at Broadfield Stadium. The big-spending Blue Square Premier champions take top spot thanks to Ross Hannah's 93rd-minute equaliser at Morecambe, who are third, level on points with Steve Evans's side and Rotherham.

? It's been another depressing week in a long line of depressing weeks for Plymouth Argyle fans, but at least the Pilgrims managed to put a side out at Burton Albion ? something that looked unlikely earlier this week, with players considering strike action after not being paid. Players were paid 40% of their September salary on Friday so they travelled to the Pirelli Stadium in search of a first win of the season only to fall to a 2-1 defeat, their fifth loss in six League Two games.
