Lindros confirms Flyers Winter Classic appearance; Doom reunion?

Last week, former Philadelphia Flyers star and lightning rod of controversy Eric Lindros confirmed that the team had reached out to him regarding a role at the 2012 NHL Winter Classic at Citizens Bank Park. (Full marks to Justin Johnson of The Hockey Writers for breaking that story.)

Thoughts immediately raced towards a Legion of Doom reunion in the alumni game against the New York Rangers. Which would rule.

On FAN 590's "Brady and Lang In The Morning" on Wednesday, Lindros confirmed he'll be back in Philly for the Classic, and that he's looking forward to a reunion with linemates John LeClair and Mikael Renberg:

"Yeah, Paul Holmgren gave me a shout about a month and a half ago, and we talked back and forth a little bit, and I was real happy to hear his voice and to get the invitation. And, yeah, I told him a while back that I would fly down and have some fun. I haven't seen Johnny in a little while. I know they're trying to get in touch with Mikael. I've been trying myself, so Mikael, if for some reason if you're listening ?

"If he can ever get back over [seas], he'd be in much better shape than Johnny and I."

So the reunion is on ? if anyone can find Renberg. Dave Isaac of Philadelphia Sports Daily writes that the "right wing of the Legion of Doom hasn't played since 2009 when he suited up for Skelleftea AIK of the Swedish Elite League."

Hopefully they locate him, because the time is right for a Legion of Doom reunion, writes Matt P. from The 700 Level:

The Legion Of Doom, featuring Lindros, John LeClair, and Mikael Renberg, WAS Flyers hockey while it lasted. A combination of size, toughness, speed, and scoring abilities made them as dangerous a unit as there was in hockey, and also as entertaining. Can the Flyers get them all back together on December 31?

Everyone knows the Lindros Era ended incredibly poorly, with relations souring between the player and the team very publicly, and long before the end actually came. It's great to see both sides putting it behind them so that the fans can get one last look at 10-88-19 skating together.

Wonder what Jeff Beukeboom, Ulf Samuelsson, Adam Graves and Esa Tikkanen have left in the tank to combat the Legion (just to throw out some New York Rangers countermeasures out there).
