Video: Chris Pronger leaves game after taking stick to face

Last season, Philadelphia Flyers defenseman Chris Pronger missed 32 games with a hand and back injury; a season which he called "the year from hell".

Early in tonight's game against the Toronto Maple Leafs, Pronger caught Mikhail Grabovski's stick in the face on a follow-through and fell to the ice. The 37-year old blueliner left the ice in a hurry, with his pain audible to everyone in the crowd:

Being able to hear a guy like Pronger yelling in pain as he leaves the ice is a frightening thing. No penalty was called on the play because of the follow-through rule.

According to Flyers GM Paul Holmgren, Pronger will not return tonight. No word on the severity of the injury.

UPDATE: Via Anthony SanFilippo of the Delco Times, Holmgren told reporters after the game that Pronger has swelling around his right eye and will be on bed rest for the next three days. An eye doctor will meet with Pronger each of the next four days and if the swelling goes down, he's expected to re-join the team in 10-14 days, but in a skating-only capacity, not playing.

But more importantly, Holmgren laid out an order upon Pronger's return to the team saying,"When Chris comes back he'll be wearing a visor."
