Wednesday?s Three Stars: Kessel, Lupul power Leafs over Jets

Wednesday?s Three Stars: Kessel, Lupul power Leafs over JetsNo. 1 Star: Joffrey Lupul, Toronto Maple Leafs

The offensive star of the Leafs' 4-3 comeback win over the Winnipeg Jets. Lupul's first-period game-tying goal bounced off the goal cam in a feat of awesomeness. His third-period goal on the power play cut the Jets' lead to 3-2. Then, in the shootout, Lupul beat Ondrej Pavelec in the shootout ? the lone goal before Matt Frattin's game-clincher.

No. 2 Star: Phil Kessel, Toronto Maple Leafs

Had he scored in the shootout, Kessel snags the No. 1 star. He assisted on both of Lupul's goals and then scored the game-tying goal at 7:55 of the third period, his league-leading seventh goal of the season. Kessel and Lupul combined for 10 shots on goal. Kessel and Dion Phaneuf also gave us perhaps the greatest Hockey Hug of the young season.

No. 3 Star: Mark Scheifele, Winnipeg Jets

The rookie scored his first NHL goal on the power play, a tap-in from the left side of the crease. A much-needed tally for a player trying to convince his team to keep him in the bigs.

Honorable mention: Alex Burmistrov and Tobias Enstrom had the other Jets goals. ? John-Michel Liles had two power-play assists. ? James Reimer made 26 saves, including some key stops to keep the deficit at two goals. ... David Steckel was 16-2 on faceoffs.

Did you know? Leafs vlogger/professional killjoy Steve Dangle notes that the Leafs had the same record at this point last season.

Dishonorable mention: The Jets were beaten on faceoffs 63 percent to 37 percent. Bryan Little was 6-for-21. ? The Leafs lost Colby Armstrong to a lower-body injury on his first shift. ? Finally, Nathan Gerbe was name-checked on "Law And Order" and was called the Buffalo Sabres' penalty minutes leader. Cody McCormick is frightened and confused by this (via @Bosswally):
