Brian Engblom finds himself between the benches for Tuesday's Versus coverage of the Buffalo Sabres-Tampa Bay Lightning game, a spot the former defenseman once thought was one of the least likely places to find a broadcaster."The way the game is covered has changed just as much as the way the game is played on the ice," said Engblom, who played for five NHL teams during his 11-season NHL career. "The coverage is more in depth. Back when I was playing, this kind of thing would be unheard of. It just wouldn't happen."
It's still new for Versus, the NHL's U.S. cable partner. NBC -- which recently joined Versus under Comcast's corporate umbrella -- has used former coach Pierre McGuire in the "between the glass" role for the last couple seasons. McGuire debuted in the same role for Versus on Monday.
