Last week Marek Svatos and his Russian hockey club, Omsk Avangard, mutually agreed to part ways after a 19-game stint that saw him score three goals. He quickly found a team in the NHL, inking what was a reported one-year deal worth $800,000 with the St. Louis Blues. The only catch: since he had previously been playing overseas he had to clear waivers according to NHL rules before he could play a game with the Blues, something he did not do on Wednesday as he was claimed by the Nashville Predators, a divisional rival of St. Louis.
Prior to signing in the KHL this summer, Svatos had played six seasons with the Colorado Avalanche, scoring 96 goals in 316 NHL games, including a career-high of 32 during the 2005-06 campaign. Since then, however, he eclipsed the 20-goal plateau just once, while his career has been consistently sidetracked by injuries, never playing more than 69 games in a single season.
In 54 games last year he totaled seven goals and four assists with the Avalanche.
