Puck Headlines: Duchene, Hiller out; Ian White on the block

Here are your Puck Headlines: a glorious collection of news and views collected from the greatest blogosphere in sports and the few, the proud, the mainstream hockey media.

• From our own Justin Bourne comes this bit of awesome: Assistant coach notes on Phoenix for the Chicago Blackhawks at a recent game. From JB: "Ummm apparently he wasn't impressed with Pyatt's goal off the wing, double underlining the word (WEAK).  I'm pretty sure after seeing the replay Corey Crawford was screened and it was tipped." [JTBourne]

• The Colorado Avalanche announced Wednesday that forward Matt Duchene will be out indefinitely due to a hand injury suffered on Monday against the Calgary Flames. Took a puck to the wrist against the Flames. Terrible news. [Denver Post]

• Also terrible: Jonas Hiller of the Anaheim Ducks has been placed on IR and will miss at least three games with "a recurrence of fatigue/lightheadedness." And yet he still shut out the Oilers on Sunday with a 12-save effort. Curtis McElhinney will likely be in net for the Ducks Wednesday night vs. the Washington Capitals at Honda Center, with his backup being Timo Pielmeier. [Ducks]

• We're in prime trade territory; if you're not reading Spector, you should be. [Spector]

Chris Phillips has a no-trade clause for the Ottawa Senators. Word is the Ottawa Senators would like to trade him. Chris Phillips, to the Sun, on why he wants to stay in Ottawa: "I do and I know people will call me crazy for saying that ... but I think you need some veteran guys that have been around to help and guide the young guys coming in. I'm okay and would take on that responsibility." [Sun]

• The Hockey News presents the top-10 players most likely to be traded this deadline, and judging from its top pick may want to read the news item above. [THN]

Ian White of the Carolina Hurricanes could be moved within the next 24 hours; as Chip Alexander wrote, "White has no goals and 10 assists for the Canes and had 12:45 in ice time Sunday against the Atlanta Thrashers, his lowest since coming to Carolina." This after being a minus-a-billion for the Flames. [Canes Now]

Patrick Kane will be in the lineup for the Chicago Blackhawks against the Minnesota Wild with the flu and after having "couple bags of IV fluids" Wednesday morning. [Between The Circles]

• Good news for Dallas fans from (the real) Darren Dreger: "Sources say that in the past few weeks, the ownership situation in Dallas has turned for the better -- with negotiations with an unnamed group interested in buying the Stars to the point where all parties involved (including the NHL) have an agreement in price." [TSN]

• C'mon, San Jose Sharks: How on earth do you create a Mike Ricci bobblehead that doesn't have his mouth open? [Sharks]

• Now that he knows Jhonas Enroth is after his gig, Ryan Miller is back for the Buffalo Sabres against the Leafs. [Buffalo News]

• Behind The Net Is not a fan of the Dustin Byfuglien contract extension or, apparently, Dustin Byfuglien on defense for that matter. [Behind The Net]

• The Columbus Blue Jackets have activated left wing Ethan Moreau off injured reserve, Blue Jackets executive vice president and general manager Scott Howson announced Wednesday. Moreau missed the past 16 games after suffering an injury at Phoenix on Jan. 4. [Jackets]

• How many defensemen are the Boston Bruins looking for a trade? "On the board this morning there were nine." [WEEI]

• "I suppose it was only a matter of time before Phil Kessel went all Carlton Fisk on the Bruins' asses." [Barstool]

• "In this world of Twitter and Facebook and all this technology, any little rumor spreads like wild fire and all of a sudden legitimate sites, in an effort to be one of the first to post this speculation, report it as fact without verifying the rumor." So check out the anatomy of a trade rumor. [Wicked Good Sports]

• The New Jersey Devils' "Mission Control" is a really interesting experiment. And also the first step towards Skynet becoming a reality. [Puck The Media]

• From the great Earl Sleek: "what is Pacifically wrong with the Capitals?" [Battle of California]

• Really good stuff on the Dallas Stars and their mental toughness: "After missing the playoffs the last two seasons, the last thing the Stars should ever be accused of in any game is a lack of desperation. If that doesn't invite questioning of this team's mental toughness, I'm not sure what does." [Defending Big D]

• Duhatschek on the Heritage Classic: "That's always the issue in Calgary -- the weather that fluctuates so dramatically that, for people who don't live here year-round, it is their single biggest criticism of the city. No matter how much I tell them about the good times, nobody believes." [Globe & Mail]

• "When exactly did Wild Defensman Nick Schultz stop sucking so badly on the ice?" [Wild Puck Banter]

• Finally, we suspect this may be a child actor. Good punchline though.
