The Buffalo Sabres aren't scoring a ton of goals this season, currently ranked 21st in the NHL at 2.54 goals per game. Their offense took a huge hit on Friday when it was announced by general manager Darcy Regier that Derek Roy, the teams leading scorer, will miss four-to-six months after having surgery to repair a torn quad tendon. In 35 games this season Roy had scored 10 goals to go with 25 assists for a team-best 35 points, leading Thomas Vanek, the team's No. 2 scorer, by 10 points.
Roy left Thursday's game, a 4-3 loss to the Florida Panthers, after recording just 1:54 of ice time. The injury occurred when he was hit by Panthers defenseman Dmitry Kulikov early in the first period.
