Maple Leafs Barely Alive for Playoffs as All-Star Break Begins

TORONTO -- This being the week that the Oscar nominations were announced, you could say the film version of the Toronto Maple Leafs would be "A Bridge Too Far" or "Mission Impossible."

The Maple Leafs head into the All-Star break with a less-than-stellar 19-25-5 record for 43 points.

The betting line says it will take 90 points to make the playoffs in the Eastern Conference, meaning the Maple Leafs will have to go 24-9 in their remaining 33 games, which is technically possible but highly improbable.

There is more to the equation.
