2010-11 Philadelphia Flyers Preview: No Question Marks at Two of Three Positions

The Philadelphia Flyers are going to hear about their goaltending problems probably until they win the Stanley Cup again, and maybe again after the parade. This is what the Flyers have been about since Ron Hextall won the Conn Smythe Trophy (in a losing cause) in 1987. On the bright side, it sure beats having to deal with criticism about a lack of defense, or a lack of scoring, or a lack of toughness.

Besides, everyone knows you can win a Stanley Cup with a goalie who doesn't have a big contract or reputation. The defending champion Chicago Blackhawks were so fond of Antti Niemi, he's now tending goal for the San Jose Sharks. The Flyers made it to the Final last season behind the play of Ray Emery, Brian Boucher and Michael Leighton -- whomever happened to be able to stand upright.

Leighton is out for the next month with a back injury, but the Flyers aren't down and out. They have Boucher. They have prospect Sergei Bobvrosky, a 6-2 Russian who had some shining moments in training camp. They can add a goalie at the trade deadline. Most of all, Philadelphia is loaded at every position. Besides a true signature player like Sidney Crosby or Alexander Ovechkin, what more could you ask for?
