Daron Richardson's RIP Facebook Page Defaced

Filed under:

Luke RichardsonA Facebook tribute site for Daron Richardson, daughter of Ottawa Senators assistant coach and former NHL player Luke Richardson (pictured), has been the focus of internet trolls who have posted images, videos and messages that have mocked the fact the 14-year-old died Saturday of injuries sustained in a suicide attempt.

Even as the creator of page and others began to flag the offensive material, at least a handful of users continue to post disturbing images and comments to the page. One user had left several pictures of depicting a man hanging himself and others left extremely derogatory comments as of Wednesday afternoon.

"Ignore the TROLLS who are posting on here -- block them and you will not see them at all -- they are mentally ill people," one user in response to the links posted on Richardson's tribute page that has had more than 6,800 followers. "Stop commenting on their sick postings on this page, they will get bored and eventually crawl back under the bridge they came from."

Much of the damage inflicted on the page was by a group of so-called internet trolls -- an often annoying, but largely harmless sect in the online community -- that's purpose is stated as: "One day when you die; we will all laugh!"

"I'm enraged, I'm shaking with it here," a young woman told the Ottawa Citizen. "I'm just so angry about it. This is a hate crime at its best."
