Ilya Kovalchuk Fights Mike Green

The New Jersey Devils went through a chaotic series of events this summer to sign Ilya Kovalchuk, and when you consider what they gave up at last year's trade deadline to acquire him from Atlanta, it ended up costing them a number of players, draft picks, and millions of dollars in fines due to what the NHL deemed to be salary cap circumvention with its original 17-year agreement. In the end, a 15-year, $100 million pact is what made everybody happy.

I'm quite certain they didn't go through all of that to see him drop the gloves and fight Mike Green, as he did late in the third period of New Jersey's 7-2 loss to the Capitals on Saturday night. It's pretty much what you would expect from two offensive stars not really known for the rough stuff.
