Peter Laviolette's decision to throw rookie goaltender
Sergei Bobrovsky directly into the cauldron for Thursday night's season opener was quite surprising (especially to
Brian Boucher), and had the potential to go one of two ways: he would either rise to the challenge and play a stellar game, or he would get run out of the building. It seemed to be one of those situations that would go to either extreme with no chance for any result in the middle.
In the end it couldn't have worked out better for the
Flyers. The 22-year-old rookie stole the show in Philadelphia's 3-2 win, spoiling the first game for Pittsburgh in its new home. Making it even more impressive is the fact Bobrovsky did it with his best defenseman,
Chris Pronger, out of the lineup.
