After an incredible 8-1-1 start, it's not been the best of times for St. Louis Blues goaltender Jaroslav Halak. He surrendered 12 goals in his previous three starts, all losses, before visiting Detroit on Wednesday night and giving up another seven goals in yet another defeat, 7-3.
The first of those seven goals will go down as one of the biggest goaltending blunders of the NHL season, as Halak literally scored on himself in the first period:

The carnival music was a nice touch, Joe Louis Arena.
From the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, some context and some comments from the red-faced goaltender:
After making some fabulous saves early on, including a sliding stop on Pavel Datsyuk seven minutes into the game, Blues netminder Jaroslav Halak pulled a T.C. Chen to put Detroit ahead 1-0. Halak made an initial save on Drew Miller's shot, but in his effort to bat a rebound away, Halak double-hit the puck and knocked it in his own net.
"I never remember anything like that," said Halak, who has an .800 save percentage since a victory at Boston on Nov. 6. "When teams go through a stretch like this, lose four or five games in a row, it hurts. But what can we do, it's past."
Halak also told The Sporting News: "[Stuff] happens. What else can I say on that? I was trying to put it behind the net, in the corner. It got a weird bounce. What can I say?"

Without a doubt, Halak's swat into his own goal is the biggest goalie fail in the NHL this season. In the competition for most embarrassing goalie goof on Earth this season, is it worse than former Tampa Bay goalie Karri Ramo's rink-length goal-allowed in the KHL that led to his immediate removal from the game? Tough call.

More importantly: Is it possible Jaroslav Halak gave up the worst goal of the season five days after his former Montreal Canadiens teammate/rival Carey Price may have made the save of the year?
