After trading Andrej Meszaros and losing
Kurtis Foster to free agency on Thursday, the
Tampa Bay Lightning lost two of their top-three scoring defenseman from last season. To help fill that void, rookie general manager Steve Yzerman spent Friday morning signing
Pavel Kubina to a two-year deal, adding a veteran presence -- and some offense -- to his blue line.
It will be Kubina's second stint with the
Lightning, the team that originally drafted him in the seventh-round of the 1996 draft, as he spent the first eight years of his career in Tampa Bay -- and winning a Stanley Cup -- before signing as a free agent with the Toronto Maple Leafs prior to the 2006 season. He spent last season in Atlanta, scoring six goals to go along with his 32 assists.
