The NHL posted what it called a "first look at Winter Classic opening video," which bridges the previous three incarnations with the latest host city. It could double as a teaser for the Pittsburgh Dept. of Tourism, assuming there is such an animal:
What a treasure trove of information! FACT: Pittsburgh is both the home to the first winner of the Winter Classic and the banana split.
In other Pittsburgh Penguins vs. Washington Capitals news, Dan Steinberg of the Washington Post investigated the origins of Tuesday night's "We Want Pittsburgh" chant at the Washington Capitals' home win over the Devils. (stick tap to Cecilia L.):
Turns out there are slightly more people claiming responsibility for the chant than claim to have attended Game 6 of the 1986 World Series, which at last count was in the millions. Best line of the piece, via Mike Knuble:
"I asked Brooks what they were saying," winger Mike Knuble told The Post's Katie Carrera. "I thought they were saying like we want pizza or we want chicken wings."
Remember: HBO 24/7 tonight. Full recap in the morning.
