During the second period of Boston's 6-2 win in Colorado on Saturday, center Marc Savard had yet another injury scare when he was hit into the glass by Avalanche defenseman Matt Hunwick. The 33-year-old center has been limited to just 65 games over the past two seasons due to a concussion and post-concussion syndrome, and was clearly shaken when his head hit the glass on Saturday. He was eventually helped off the ice and did not return to the game after logging just seven minutes of ice-time.According to Bruins coach Claude Julien, Savard will return to Boston instead of accompanying the team to Los Angeles for its next game. Said Julien, via James Murphy of ESPN Boston, "He seemed fine when I talked to him so we're hoping it's all minor. It's always those situations [that are scary].
Savard was on the receiving end of a similar hit last Saturday against the Pittsburgh Penguins when Deryk Engelland hit him into the glass. He suffered a concussion last year when he was hit by Matt Cooke on a play that ultimately helped lead to a rule change that made east-west blindside hits to the head illegal.
