It took us all of two nights of preseason hockey to get our first suspension of the 2010 season. If you had Nick Boynton in the pool, collect your prize. After being involved in a fight with Tampa Bay's Blair Jones on Wednesday night, Boynton made a throat slash gesture in Jones' direction as he skated toward the penalty box. The fight was the result of an open-ice hit that Boynton had on Chris Durno that appeared to be a knee-on-knee collision.

The NHL, of course, was not amused by Boynton's post-fight actions and has suspended the Blackhawks rearguard for one regular season game according to TSN. The game will be Chicago's season opener against the Colorado Avalanche on Oct. 7.

TSN's Bob McKenzie pointed out on Twitter that this is actually the second time in Boynton's career he's been suspended for such a move, earning a one-game banishment during the 2005-06 season when he was a member of the Boston Bruins.
