In 2009, University of Wisconsin junior Jamie McBain had a banner year, helping the Badgers contend for a spot in the NCAA Tournament. McBain led the Badgers in scoring with 37 points, quarterbacked the UW power play and was a top-10 finalist for the Hobey Baker Award, given annually to college hockey's top player.

McBain chose to sign a three-year deal with the Carolina Hurricanes, who drafted him in the second round back in 2006.

After a strong rookie season for Carolina's American Hockey League affiliate in Albany, N.Y., McBain finally got the call young players dream of on March 16, when he was brought to Raleigh to make his NHL debut. Five days later, McBain had the kind of first NHL goal that should leave every young player on the planet jealous.
