It's been a great start for the
Philadelphia Flyers as they currently own the top spot in the
NHL with 47 points and are riding a four-game winning streak. It wasn't all good news for them on Friday, however, as general manager Paul Holmgren confirmed that their No. 1 defenseman,
Chris Pronger,
will undergo surgery to repair a broken bone in his right foot. According to TSN's Darren Dreger the timetable for his return is
somewhere between four and six weeks.
In 31 games this season the veteran rearguard is averaging just over 22 minutes of ice-time per game (he's second on the team, trailing
Kimmo Timonen by an average of eight seconds per game) and has scored four goals to go with 11 assists and a plus-six rating.
The bad news for the
Flyers is they're going to be without their top defenseman for at least a month. The good news is they still have plenty of defensive depth and that the injury occurred in the middle of December as opposed to, say, the middle of April.
