On Thursday we showed you the hit that resulted in San Jose Sharks captain Joe Thornton being ejected from his team's 2-0 loss to the St. Louis Blues for an illegal hit to the head of David Perron. The next question that needed answered was whether or not the NHL would step in with additional punishment, and on Friday the league did just that by suspending Thornton for the next two games.Even though Perron remained on the ice for a few minutes after the hit, he eventually returned to the game and scored his fifth goal of the season. Following the game Thornton said he felt like he established himself on the ice and that it was a "north-south" hit.
"I braced myself for the hit and he just ran into me. That's all I thought had happened," said Thornton, via David Pollack of Working the Corners. Perron said he never saw who hit him, before pointing out that Thornton isn't a dirty player and is "not going out for that."
