Penguins' Kris Letang Emerging as Norris Trophy Contender

NEW YORK -- Kris Letang must consider all the attention a compliment, painfully rewarding proof of how far he has grown as a defenseman. With every stride he took on the Madison Square Garden ice Monday night during the Penguins' 3-1 victory, the New York Rangers tried to put a body on him.

In the first period, relentless Rangers winger Ryan Callahan hit the Penguins defenseman so hard, Letang's helmet flew off his head. Letang dusted himself off, placed his helmet back on and continued the latest in a series of effective shifts. Throughout the night, the Rangers made a point of getting in Letang's face.

That is, when they could catch up to him. That is, when they weren't pre-occupied by the playmaking wizardry of Sidney Crosby.

Nothing worked.
