New York Rangers forward Ryan Callahan will miss up to two months after breaking his hand Wednesday. In meeting with reporters ahead of the Rangers' game against Phoenix Thursday, coach John Tortorella said Callahan would be out six to eight weeks. He broke his hand while blocking a shot during the Rangers' 4-1 win over Pittsburgh Wednesday.
It's a tough blow for the Rangers, who were celebrating the return of Chris Drury to the lineup Wednesday. Finally looking to field a full roster, Tortorella was dealing with Callahan's injury early in the game. Callahan is a valued leader and solid two-way player for the Rangers. He is second on the team with 23 points in 32 games.
Tortorella said no call-ups were planned from the minor leagues to fill Callahan's roster spot while he is gone.
