Lou Lamoriello Gets the Benefit of the Doubt One Last Time

Even when firing a coach most thought had been on the clock for over a month, Lou Lamoriello still came up with a few surprises.

Axing John MacLean two days before Christmas? Flying in Jacques Lemaire from Quebec the day of a game to start as MacLean's replacement for the rest of the season?

In so many ways, it was vintage Lamoriello. His service to the job is legendary. The Devils president and general manager probably did not think for a moment that it was almost Christmas. What he did know was his hockey team lost 5-1 in Washington on Tuesday, 7-1 in Atlanta on Saturday, 3-1 at home to Nashville the night before.
