The Night Jaroslav Halak Closed Down the Igloo, many of my colleagues and me were like giddy kids in the Pittsburgh press box. Not that we had any rooting interest, mind you. Whether the Penguins or Canadiens advanced from this Game 7 to the Eastern Conference Final mattered little to us. We were just like wide-eyed children at the display of goaltending Halak produced.
More than seven months later, it's easy to look at the 5-2 final score for Montreal and not think much about Halak. But he was pure genius on this night of May 12. Just two weeks earlier, the Canadiens goaltender pulled off the magic trick in a Game 7 in Washington to eliminate an unnerved Alex Ovechkin and the Capitals. That was crazy enough. Could he do it again against Sidney Crosby and the Penguins? I didn't think he could.
