Entering Wednesday's game against the St. Louis Blues future Hall of Fame defenseman Nicklas Lidstrom had done just about everything a hockey player can do. Stanley Cups, Olympic Gold, enough Norris Trophies to fill a house. The one thing he hadn't done? Score three goals in an NHL game. Consider it done, as the veteran rearguard recorded his first career hat trick during the Red Wings 5-2 win.During his 19 NHL seasons the 39-year-old Lidstrom had scored 241 goals entering Wednesday's contest and has been one of the most productive defenseman the NHL has ever seen. Said Lidstrom after the game, via the Associated Press, "You always think you're going to get one, sooner or later. You've got to continue to shoot the puck and hope for some bounces. You can't quit shooting the puck, that's the key to everything."
He's still playing like one of the best defenseman in the NHL and should, once again, be a contender for Norris No. 7.
Here's video of Lidstrom's third goal of the night, and his seventh of the season (it came on an empty net, but, hey, it still counts)...
