The Buffalo Sabres lost in overtime, 4-3, to the Colorado Avalanche on Tuesday night, and they were inches -- centimeters, probably -- away from walking away with a win. With the game tied, 3-3, with just over five minutes to play in the third period, rookie forward Luke Adam appeared to have a go-ahead goal, firing a puck into an empty net. The only problem, however, is that the puck deflected off the stick of his teammate, Tyler Ennis, and never fully crossed the goal line. It was as close as you can get, as at least 90 percent of the puck appeared to be over the line (the entire puck needs to cross for it to be a goal). The game remained tied into overtime where Colorado's David Jones netted a power play goal (with Ennis in the box for high sticking) at the 4:13 mark.
Said Buffalo coach Lindy Ruff after the game, "It might be one of the most bizarre breaks you can get -- hit your own stick to stop it from going in the net."
Bizarre is one way to describe it. Unlucky would be another. Here's the video...
