Deadline Buzz Hurt by Lack of Fire Sales

The NHL's trade deadline didn't exactly come and go with a whimper, but there wasn't nearly as much buzz as in years past. The lack of big deals was likely disappointing to many, but looking back, none of this should be terribly surprising.

There were teams that could go in as buyers. What they were missing was a glut of teams to buy from. More than any economic theories you could come up with, and more than the timing of the deadline being hurt by the Olympic break, it was a quick gander at the standings that killed the trade deadline buzz this year.
