Sergei Bobrovsky to Start Philadelphia's Season Opener

As long as the NHL exists it seems that we're going to be asking questions about the goaltending situation with the Philadelphia Flyers. Having it any other way would just seem ... wrong. With last year's surprise playoff backstop, Michael Leighton, on the shelf to start the season, it was assumed that veteran Brian Boucher would handle most of the starts in his absence.

Hours before the Flyers hit the ice for the first time in 2010, head coach Peter Laviolette has already raised some eyebrows by naming 22-year-old rookie Sergei Bobrovsky his starter for the season opener in Pittsburgh.

Not only is it Bobrovsky's first NHL appearance, but it's also on the road and against one of Philadelphia's chief rivals that also happens to be a Stanley Cup contender that's opening up its new barn. Nothing like throwing him right to the wolves. This could be interesting, if nothing else.
