No. 1 Star: Scott Hartnell, Philadelphia Flyers
Hartnell has scored at least a point in seven of his last eight games, a.k.a. his post-haircut era. Against the Carolina Hurricanes on Monday night, he opened the scoring with a nifty backhander and then making it 3-1 Flyers on a tip shot in the third. Philadelphia won, 3-2, increasing their winning streak to four and moving into first place in the Atlantic.
No. 2 Star: Roberto Luongo, Vancouver Canucks
Luongo was a perfect 30-for-30 against the New Jersey Devils, outdueling Marty Brodeur and getting a break when a David Clarkson goalie interference call wiped away a Devils' goal. Also a break: He was facing a toothless Devils' offense. The 3-0 victory was his first shutout of the season.
No. 3 Star: Brandon Dubinsky, New York Rangers
Erik Christensen's third-period goal, scored just 28 seconds after Patrick Kane tied the game for the Chicago Blackhawks, turned out to be the game-winner, but Dubinsky's two tallies were critical. His line with Artem Anisimov and Ryan Callahan combined for a first-period goal to answer a Tomas Kopecky goal just over 2 minutes earlier, and combined again for a power-play goal to open the third. Dubinsky now has seven goals on the season to lead the Rangers, who defeated the Blackhawks, 3-2.
Honorable mention: Henrik Lundqvist made 33 saves for New York. ... Sergei Bobrovsky made 26 saves for the Flyers, as Claude Giroux scored his seventh. ... Carolina got goals from Pat Dwyer and Joe Corvo. ... Vancouver received goals from Raffi Torres, Ryan Kesler and Henrik Sedin on a penalty shot against Marty Brodeur:
Did you know? Eric Wellwood, the younger brother of former NHL player Kyle Wellwood, made his NHL debut with the Flyers on Monday, logging nearly 14 minutes. (AP)
Dishonorable mention: What else can be said about the Devils' disaster? Jersey's now 3-9-1, the worst start in 27 years for the franchise. They've been outscored 42-20 on the season. Ilya Kovalchuk has 1 goal and zero assists in his last seven games. Jason Arnott was benched against Vancouver. ... Despite scoring, Kopecky was a minus-2 for Chicago. ... The Hurricanes have lost three of four.
