VANCOUVER, B.C. -- Rick Rypien is out to prove that he has more character than people think. The Vancouver forward, now serving a six-game suspension for an incident with a fan Oct. 19 in St. Paul, Minn., apologized Monday.
"I know what I did was wrong," said Rypien in his first public comments since the incident in a game against the Minnesota Wild in St. Paul.
Calling his actions inexcusable, Rypien, a 26-year-old Coleman, Alta., native said he was in no position to question the length of the suspension handed down by NHL commissioner Gary Bettman and chief disciplinarian Colin Campbell. Rypien vowed that a similar incident would never happen again.
