For the first time in franchise history the Edmonton Oilers had the top pick in the NHL draft, and as expected, used it on Windsor Spitfires forward Taylor Hall. The Oilers won the draft lottery in April after finishing the regular season with -- by far -- the worst record in the NHL, winning just 27 of 82 games, while their 62 points were 12 fewer than the next worst team, the Toronto Maple Leafs.Hall, a native of Calgary, Alberta, spent the past three years with Windsor of the Ontario Hockey League, scoring 123 goals and adding 157 assists in 183 games. He was tied for the league lead with 106 points this past season with Tyler Seguin (the likely No. 2 pick in the draft), despite playing in six fewer games. He's finished in the top-18 in scoring in each of the past three seasons, including the top-six the past two years. He helped lead his team to back-to-back Memorial Cup Championships, while also winning the Stafford Smythe Trophy (tournament MVP) each time, making him the only player to win it twice.
