Bruins, Kings Say There Is No Marco Sturm Trade

So much for the Marco Sturm-to-Los Angeles trade that was kicked around earlier on Thursday. At least for now. After it was reported that Sturm had been traded to the Kings for what was believed to be a conditional draft pick, both the Bruins and Kings denied that any such deal had been completed on Thursday night.

Bruins general manager Peter Chiarelli issued the following statement: "I am aware of the various media reports today regarding Marco Sturm. I can confirm that I spoke to Marco about waiving his no trade clause and have had discussions regarding Marco with other teams. I can also confirm that there is no trade in place with Marco. At this time, Marco is a member of the Boston Bruins and will continue to train with our team."

Meanwhile, Kings general manager Dean Lombardi told Helene Elliott of the Los Angeles Times that there is "no deal" and that "there was no deal." Despite that, Elliott did pass along the news that assistant general manager Ron Hextall spoke in the press box prior to Thursday's game and said the two teams may continue to talk about a deal involving Sturm.

Sturm has yet to play this season for the Bruins as he's still recovering from a knee injury that he suffered during last year's playoffs. He scored a team-high 22 goals a season ago.
