Flyers Acquire Rights to Dan Hamhuis

It didn't take the Philadelphia Flyers long to start re-tooling their roster, and potentially making an already menacing defensive unit even better.

Just a week after dropping Game 6 of the Stanley Cup Finals, the Flyers acquired the rights to soon-to-be unrestricted free agent Dan Hamhuis, as well as a conditional seventh-round draft pick, from the Nashville Predators in exchange for defenseman Ryan Parent . If the Flyers and Hamhuis can't work out a contract before July 1, Hamhuis will be available to the highest bidder. Since Philadelphia was willing to give up a player off of its NHL roster, management probably feels confident a deal can be reached.

Judging by comments made by general manager Paul Holmgren and Hamhuis in the wake of the deal, it sounds like both sides are eager to get something done.
